Executive Summary

Meeting was called to order. Members introduced themselves and then participated in CAC training led by Principal Hosack. Principal Hosack then provided an update on current school needs, focusing on hiring needs. Together we developed a list of “agreements” for our committee and we closed out the meeting with a PTA update focused on the need to join PTA, upcoming events and the new Bark process.

Agenda

CAC Training

CAC Vision - a place where teachers, parents, and community members have a voice in our school.

Topics we may cover:

  • TAPR (Texas Academic Performance Reports) and PD (Professional Development)
    • Review annual TAPR report and discuss campus improvement plan as needed (typically in January)
    • Review or approve campus professional development plan
  • CIP (Campus Improvement Plan)
    • Document written and submitted annually
    • Draft is due in October
    • CAC may review or make recommendations
  • Review Budget
    • Registration and Budget talks start in November (Registration is the key driver of budget by campus)
    • Review BTO (Basic Table of Organization)
  • Input on safety, learning and working environment, resources, dress code
  • Could schedule presentations from district or state leaders for specific topics as needed

ACTION: Principal Hosack to confirm our CAC completed training

ACTION: CAC members encouraged to recruit for our open community member position.

Principal Update

  1. Current vacancies - Music, Life Skills TA, DHH TA
    1. Music – currently taught by Ms. Kerr seeing all classes on rotation with coverage provided by substitute teachers, as needed. Program for Mac students to volunteer in music classes is also in development for additional support. Search for an additional teacher is ongoing
    2. DHH is a need but not a current priority based on student need
    3. Life Skills - team is pulling together to provide coverage, which is currently working well to fill the gap

PTA Update

  1. Focus on membership - of critical importance to PTA during legislative session years for maximizing our voices for public education. Tell your friends and family to join!
  2. Konstella roll out
    1. Goal is more streamlined communication (though would not be used in an emergency situation, as comms come from District level)
    2. Still troubleshooting - feedback will be gathered from staff so any issues can be smoothed out
  3. Beginning National PTA School of Excellence program
    1. Three surveys throughout the year to gather feedback and data
  4. Upcoming events
    1. September 25 - Picnic on the playground and pre-order deadline for fresh merch!
  5. New Bark process - will be issued monthly (replacing the SMORES letter from the school) which will be supplemented by Konstella communication between newsletters

Group Agreements

  1. Assume positive intent - everyone is here to support kiddos!
  2. Bring curiosity
  3. Be open minded to new ideas and processes
  4. Be honest
  5. Use our teachers first names : )
  6. We are all in this together! There is not one voice - we should all feel comfortable to speak-up, share and collaborate
  7. Be community first - in the spirit of public education, let’s serve all the kiddos, not just our kiddos
  8. Respect each others time - Start on time and end on time and be ready to work while we are here

Meeting Adjourned: 5:00pm
